I had a great week in Madison! I stayed at my brother John’s house. I had lots of time with family and friends. My wife, Elizabeth, and daughter, Bridget, flew out from NC. It was great to see them after being away from home for a month. Here are some pictures.
Connected with my old high school friend, Dan Holl.
We did a lot with my niece, Abby.
Saw my niece, Tara, and her husband BJ and their daughter, Lilly.
I also got to visit with my old college roommates, Dan and Steve.
Attended Kaitlyn’s HS graduation party. It was a cold and rainy day, but still it was great to see lots of family there. And, we were in a shelter and dry.
I finished a book called “Dividing the Great” by John Metcalfe, which was recommended to me by my new friend, Scott. Scott gave me the recommendation in the blog comments and I had a chance to meet him over lunch while I was here in Madison. The book is about a couple of cyclists who biked the 2,700 mile Great Divide trail and their experiences and hardships. My current book is called “Braiding Sweetgrass” by Robin Wall Kimmerer.
I went to church at Mount Horeb UMC. It was a nice church and a good service. Got to meet several people and I loved all the hymns we sung together.
I did some preparations for continuing my bike journey. I had new tires installed on my bike, I replaced the old Nalgene, I also created a simple business card to share my blog information with others (this was a suggestion from several people I’ve talked to).
I have been eating a lot to put more weight on. Mostly good food, but Kaitlyn’s party was definitely a cheat day! 🙂 I’m going to have to work to prevent losing too much weight on the rest of the trip.
I’m looking forward to getting back on the bike tomorrow, and I have some more family and friends that I will visit before I leave Wisconsin.
Awesome family time.
Keep on Truckin… I mean Ridin…. 💪
God speed, Jim. I’m so glad to see you again. Love Dad.

It was great having you over and I love that you have so many wonderful friends and I love your pictures!
Jim so proud of you. Quite the adventure. Glad you are filling it with new memories and old acquaintance. I’ll keep reading, as you ride.
Love catching up on your progress. Sorry we couldn’t make the trip north to see you and the rest of the family. Safe travels. Love you.
