On a cool fall day we got the mountain bikes out and rode 14 miles of mostly single-track trails over a couple of hours in the Uwharrie National Forest. There’s lots of forested space in this national forest. So, this is not your “thousand turns to try to get a mile of trail on a postage stamp” route. It has long runs and different scenery (if you take a few moments to stop and look around).

Where to park
We parked at the parking lot right on Hwy 27. There are not a lot of spots there, and on the weekend the lot may fill up (unless you arrive early). You can park right on the highway shoulder, as there is a lot of green space between the highway and the woods. Another option is to drive 1.3 miles down the gravel road toward Wood Camp where there is more parking. However parking at Wood Camp will reduce your mileage as well. Here is the Google Maps link to the parking lot, which you can use for directions.
Description
We started at the parking lot at Hwy 27 and biked the gravel road 1.3 miles to Wood Camp. From there, we went out the back of the Wood Camp clearing and road the left loop on the map in a clockwise direction. It was all single track until the end, when there was a gravel road back to Wood Camp. A few good climbs that winded us. We didn’t see hardly anyone else on the trail. After returning to Wood Camp, we headed out again and did the right look in the counter clockwise direction. This second loop was easier and had some gravel road mixed in with the single track. We ended up taking the same last 3/4 of a mile gravel road section back to Wood Camp. After completing both loops, it was 1.3 miles back down the gravel road to our car.
