Day #3 (4/17/25) – Silver Comet & Chief Ladiga Trails

I woke up before 7:00 and was on the trail by 8:00. Another cold morning and I had to add a layer of clothing. 45 degrees to start, but no wind. After a couple of miles of biking the streets of Cedartown, I made it to the Silver Comet Trail. My legs felt good, and I was glad that I saved the next 14 miles of hillier trail for the morning. The trail maintenance people must have read my Day #1 blog post, because they had come through and cleared the trail of all the debris that was on it on Tuesday. Here are some pictures of the scenery.

I made it to the next town of Rockmart at 9:30 and was looking for some breakfast. However, the restaurants near the trail were not open yet, and the only other options were fast food well off the trail. So, I ate some trail mix and kept on biking. The trail leveled out after Rockmart, and I just peddled easy and took in the views. I talked to a few people when I stopped to refill my water bottle at one of the trailheads. Here are a couple of more pictures of the scenery.

I made it to the end of the Silver Comet Trail a little before 1:00. I talked to a father and son there who were just starting their bike ride. The father was facinated by my long bike tour. I used the tools I was carrying to help him to raise the bike seat on his son’s bike. Then I stopped at a restaurant on the trail for lunch. While at lunch, a cyclist came up to me and we talked about bikes and different rides for a while.

I finished lunch and biked the three mile spur trail back to my car by 2:00. My car was fine in the parking lot, and I loaded it up with my bike and gear and headed down the highway home. It was quite an adjustment to go from a quiet and peaceful bike ride to navigating traffic in Atlanta..yeeshh!

For the day, I biked 56 miles over five hours. 1,900 feet of elevation gain.

For the entire three day bike tour, I biked 200 miles over 17 1/2 hours with 4,800 feet of elevation gain. It was a great biking experience and really was just what I needed. I’m looking forward to the next bike tour.
