I played around with this one a bit and finally landed on this recipe. It also works with GF flour to make a delicious GF pizza. This recipe will make two 12-inch pizzas. Because of the two hours it takes for the dough to rise, this recipe takes about 2 1/2 hours to make.
Ingredients
Pizza Dough
- 1 1/2 cups warm water at 110 degrees F
- 1 tbsp Yeast (this is a little more than one packet)
- 1 tbsp Honey (can substitute sugar)
- 2 tbsp Olive Oil
- 1 tsp salt
- 3 1/4 cups Whole Wheat Flour (or use GF flour if making it GF). Plus extra for rolling out the dough
- 1 tsp Garlic Powder
- 1 tsp Italian Seasoning
- 1/2 tsp Dried Basil
- 1/2 tsp Oregano
Sauce
- 1 can (14.5 oz) Diced Tomatoes
- 1 can (6 oz) Tomato Paste
- 1 tbsp Olive Oil
- 2 tsp Sugar
- 2 tsp Dried Basil
- 1 clove Garlic
- 1 tsp salt
- 3/4 tsp Oregano
- 1/4 tsp Black Pepper
- 1/4 tsp Crushed Red Pepper Flakes
Directions
- Add warm water, yeast and honey into a stainless steel bowl and whisk together. Let set 5 minutes.
- Add the olive oil, salt, and flour to the bowl and mix with a wooden spoon.
- On a lightly floured surface, knead the dough for 5 minutes.
- Lightly grease the stainless steel bowl with olive oil and return the dough to it, covering all sides with oil. Cover the bowl with AL foil, plastic wrap, or a dish towel and place in a warm place to rise. Let it rise until it doubles in size. It will take two hours to rise.
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Grease the pizza pan or baking sheet and lightly flour.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to the desired shape. Cover the dough and allow the dough to rest while you make the sauce.
- Pizza sauce: Add all the ingredients to a food processor and blend until smooth.
- Move the dough to the pan(s), brush with olive oil, add the pizza sauce and any other toppings you desire.
- Bake in the oven for 15 minutes.
