I took a couple of days off of the van build to do some volunteer work with my church. Back at it today and continuing the work on the drawers that I made with Lena on Tuesday. I started by figuring out the catch mechanism that I wanted to use to secure the drawers when they were closed. I installed it in the drawer in the back of the van and the one above the refrigerator and it worked well. That also finished the work on those two drawers. Here is a picture of the drawer at the back of the van.

Then I tackled the two drawers under the lower bunk. Lena and I had built the boxes, but I still needed to finish the faces and attach them. I tried to glue the face onto the box in place, so that I could be sure the fit was exactly correct. But, the glue wouldn’t hold well enough. So, I ended up using 1″ wood screws to secure the face of the drawer. I took numerous measurements to ensure I had the correct location, but still had to adjust one of them a second time. Here is what these two drawers look like now that they are finished.

Finally, I tackled the two drawers that are between the sink and the refrigerator. These are the two drawers that Lena and I couldn’t get to fit on Tuesday night. I adjusted one of the vertical wall boards and was able to get the upper drawer to fit. But, the bottom drawer was still too tight. So, I disassembled the drawer and used my circular saw to trim 1/4″ off of the width of the drawer. Then it fit okay, but is still a little tough to slide. I glued the drawer face onto this box and will install it tomorrow. Here is a picture of two of the drawers in the galley.

It was pretty much a day dedicated to finishing the drawers and I am happy to have them behind me. At the end of the day, I did try to install the floor LED lighting in the van. But I blew three fuses trying to install them, because of the connector that came with the lights. I’m going to try to get some different wire or maybe use a soldering iron to make the connection. At least I learned one way NOT to do it!
Tomorrow, I’ll mostly be working on installing the doors for the shelves.
