Day #80 Van Build – 9/16/25

I started the day by installing the faucet in the sink, and then installed the drain. This really didn’t take too long and was very simple. I had two different drains and I tried them both and selected the one that I thought would work better.

From my discussions with Pat yesterday, I knew better what I needed to finish the plumbing work under the sink. So, I spent some time making a list of what I needed as detailed as possible. The plan to was to go out at lunchtime to pick up this stuff.

I tested out how to attach the folding table eyebolt. I wanted to test out if I could attach it on the side of the board, and it worked great on the scrap piece of wood that I tested it on. I wanted to then do it on the folding table board, but the eyebolt stuck out enough to strike the sliding door in the van. So, I decided to trim 3/4″ off of the folding table to eliminate that interference. However, that is a two person job (one to hold the table while the other person cuts it) and I didn’t have another person to help me today. So, that will wait for another day soon. At least I have a good plan to execute.

I moved on to begin work on the upper bunk. I pulled out all the materials that I had purchased and began to test fit them together. The hardware that came with the drawer slides didn’t fit the extrusions that I had, so I needed to purchase some other hardware. I also needed to purchase bolts to secure the wood board to the top of the bunk. I added those items to the list.

About 10:30 I took a break and went to the store to pick up those items and run some other errands. I didn’t get home until after 2:00. The fasteners for the upper bunk were hard to find, but Ace had some that I tried. Unfortunately, they didn’t work. I was able to pick up some of the plumbing stuff, but was overwhelmed with the choices of plumbing materials. So, when I returned home I went online and purchased the hardware and plumbing stuff that I needed.

I’ll have the rest of the plumbing stuff tomorrow, so I should be able to finish the sink tomorrow. But, the hardware for the upper bunk won’t arrive until September 29th (two weeks from now). That really delays the upper bunk build.

I’m running out of things to work on for the van. I’m left with working on the storage shelves in the back of the van. I’ll probably start with the shelving above the electrical cabinet and learn from that for the passenger side shelving.
