Day #59 Van Build – 8/19/25

The weather was a lot cooler today and it would have been a great day to put in a lot of time on the van build. But alas, I had a dentist appointment and some other meetings to attend to. I did manage three hours, though.

I started by bolting the lower bunk to the unistrut. Then with that in place, I attached the hot air exhaust pipe from the heater. I still have a few items to complete on the lower bunk, but I can do them with it bolted down. The next item on the lower bunk will be to secure the safe in front of the heater, but I’m waiting for an item to be delivered before I can do that step. Here is what the lower bunk looks like in it’s place.

Then I moved under the van and completed the heater installation. I mounted a bracket to route the air inlet pipe to where I wanted it. This involved drilling a hole in the bottom of the van. Then, I mounted the exhaust muffler to the bottom of the van (another hole in the bottom of the van) and used hose clamps to connect the exhaust pipe to the muffler. With those tasks, the installation of the heater is now complete.

I then spent some time working on wiring the solar isolator in the electronics cabinet. This involved cutting wires, stripping insulation, crimping ferrules, and adding heat shrink. I didn’t quite finish my work on this before it got too dark out. So, I’ll finish it up tomorrow morning and then move on to other items in the electronics cabinet.

Fun statistic, I went over 300 work hours on the van build today.
