Day #29 Van Build – 6/22/25

It was a short day today, because I’m leaving town this afternoon for a couple of days. So, I just focused my time on the lower bunk fabrication. I was able to get the basic structure put together and was able to fit it into the van.

This re-designed version is short enough to not interfere with the driver’s side window. To compensate, I had to make it a few inches wider. I also allowed room for the center van pillar that comes out into the floor. So now the fabrication sits next to the lower unistrut on the wall. I have about a foot between the bed frame and the driver’s seat when it is swiveled around, which will minimize any interference. I also pulled out my mountain bike and I will have about six inches of space between the bed frame and the back tire of the bike if it is mounted in the van. So, overall, I was very happy with this re-design.

Knowing that this is the design that I am going with, I disassembled it and reassembled it with thread lock on all the screws. I then continued working on the rest of the fabrication.

At the end of my work session, I measured for where the one roof unistrut will be attached. I needed to know the final size of the lower bunk fabrication to figure this out. I was happy that this piece of unistrut will sit in a “flat” spot on the roof beams. I’ll have to drill holes for it, but that is okay.

I’m taking a couple of days off and will be back at it on Wednesday.
