I had Artie helping me for most of the day. It was a rainy morning, so we were working inside the van again. In the morning we spent 1 1/2 hours working on attaching the Kilmat sound deadening to the rest of the van. The only places that we have left to sound deaden are under the headliner where we will have to remove the headliner to perform that task, so we are leaving that for a future rainy day activity. We also haven’t put sound deadening in any of the doors, yet. We will wait until the van comes back with the new speakers and when the deadbolt locks arrive, then we can take off the door panels only once and take care of everything.
In the afternoon, Artie and I worked on installing the 3M Thinsolate insulation in the back of the van. Artie worked for two hours and I worked for three hours in the afternoon. We had a good system of me cutting the Thinsolate and Artie applying the glue and sticking it inside the van. We put in 40% of the Thinsolate that I purchased, but I think I’ll have some extra left over. Basically, we put insulation on both walls of the van. We still have part of one wall and the ceiling to do. We’ll also have to put insulation in the door panels and above the headliner when we get to those areas later in the build. I’m borrowing an electrical wire snake from my friend, Pat, tomorrow to use to put insulation inside the many beams and roof supports. That will be a tedius part, but its important to put insulation everywhere.
Tomorrow’s weather is supposed to be dry, so we are stopping work inside the van and will be installing the roof rack.
Pictures of the van with sound deadening and insulation are hard to see. Here is the best YouTube video that I found on the process we used, if you want to see how we did it. The only difference is we put the Thinsolate in with the black side showing.
