Day #13 Van Build – 6/4/25

I was only able to work in the morning and was focused on the floor of the van. I started out with Artie helping me and he started working on applying Kilmat sound deadening to the floor of the van, being careful not to put Kilmat where the joists were going. While Artie worked on the sound deadening, I was working to prepare the aluminum joists for installation. I used some rough grit sandpaper to abrade the two sides of the joist that are going to be glued (the bottom of the joist to the floor of the van and the top of the joist to the plywood subfloor). Here is a picture of the process of sanding the joists.

I then drilled pilot holes in the joists where the spacers would screw in. I then attached the spacers to the bottom of the joists. So, they looked something like this.

I helped Artie to finish the rest of the sound deadening, so that I could fit the joists to the floor to make sure they sit flush with the ribs on the floor. Here is what the floor of the van looked like with the sound deadening applied.

I will glue the joists to the floor in two sections, because I need to weigh them down while the adhesive cures. So, I only fit the first seven joists into the floor of the van. Three of the seven joists needed some adjustment. One needed the spacer tightened a little more, because it was sticking up a little. The other two had a spacer was too tall, so I removed one spacer.

Now these joists are ready to glue down. But, I ran out of time. So, I’ll perform that task tomorrow morning.
