I went to my daughter-in-law, Lena’s, house today to build six drawers for the van. Lena has a woodworking workshop in her garage, and lots of woodworking experience. I’ve never built a drawer before, but Lena has built several, so I leveraged her expertise today.
It took us about 2 1/2 hours to finish the first drawer, as we did everything together and stepped through the process. Then after lunch, we knocked out the next three drawers in three hours by splitting up and working individually. Then we must have gotten tired, because the last two drawers took three hours, and they still didn’t fit properly when we called it a day.
I’m still super happy with the progress we made and I hope to be able to finish up the rest of the work on the drawers myself.
Here is a shot of Lena on the table saw. The table saw was key to getting the drawers to fit together exactly. We also used Lena’s pocket hole jig to attach the boards together.

Here is a picture of the second drawer we made. The face board is glued to the drawer box, and the clamps are holding the two pieces together while the glue cures.

Here is a picture of the two drawers that go under the lower bunk. Here we have just fit them in on the drawer slides, but haven’t glued the face board on yet.

Lena’s dog, Molly, was a big fan of the van. I could tell she loved it and was looking forward to a future van trip.

I’m taking a couple of days off to do some missions work, so I’ll probably be back at it on Friday.
