Day #8 Van Build – 5/30/25

Missed a day with personal meetings and tasks. Back at it today. In the morning I took the van into a local car stereo shop to have the following items installed;

  • Viper car alarm
  • Upgraded car speakers
  • Front video camera
  • UV coating on the driver and passenger side windows to reduce heat and glare

They will have the van until tomorrow, so today and tomorrow will be light days of doing a few items that can be done without the van. Today’s focus was on cutting out the subfloor plywood to the template I made a couple of days ago. I was working with my wife, Elizabeth, today. She had never run a circular saw or jigsaw before. So, I took this opportunity to teach her. Elizabeth made most of the cuts that were needed and did great.

We had four sheets of plywood to cut out. We started by using the circular saw to make any long, straight, cuts. We used a strip of plywood to ensure that the cut was straight and on the template line.

Then, once we had taken the big chunks out of the sheet of plywood, we went in with the jigsaw to cut out the notches and perform the curved cuts.

Working together, we were able to cut up the four sheets of subfloor in an hour and a half. It was a great experience for Elizabeth to learn how to use these power tools and she had fun learning and doing. I think she is starting to really get interested in this van build!

Didn’t do much else, as it was a short day without the van there. I did spend a little time getting ready to prepare the driver’s side window for installation. But more on that tomorrow when I hopefully complete that work.
