With all this material arriving at the house, my dining room and entryway were filling up with boxes. Which was fine until the aluminum extrusion shipment was scheduled to arrive. That was sure to be too big for the dining room.
The aluminum extrusion was being delivered in the afternoon on the Wednesday, January 29th. So, that morning Elizabeth lost use of the garage and I started transforming the garage into my workshop. It was a beautiful day, sunny with temperatures rising into the upper 60’s.
I started by sweeping and mopping the floor. I went through the stuff in the garage and threw out as much as I could to free up space. I set up a 6’ x 3’ folding table to use as a work area. Then assembled the chop saw stand and then the chop saw itself.

It was a beautiful day, especially for January. So after I had set up my workshop as much as I could, I pulled out a camp chair and hung out and waited for the AL extrusion delivery.
It didn’t take long before it showed up. I thought that it would be on a pallet, but it was just boxed up. The FedEx guy who delivered it just hoisted the 70 pound box on his shoulder, walked it up the driveway and set it down on the garage floor.
I opened up the box and checked it out. I couldn’t do anything with it, because the blade on the chop saw was for cutting wood, and the metal cutting blade hadn’t arrived, yet.
Fortunately, the metal blade came late the next day. So, Friday morning I was ready to start fabricating.
On Friday morning, before starting to work on my first fabrication, I went onto Google Flights and checked out the prices of flights to Denver. My schedule was such that if I wanted to ski for again this year in CO, I’d have to go the next week. I found one cheap direct flight that left later that day and returned on Super Bowl Sunday. After consulting with Elizabeth and my friend, Pat, in CO, I booked the flight and 14 hours later I was sitting in Pat’s townhouse in Winter Park.
I’m glad that I pivoted and went skiing. I feel that I have plenty of time to work on fabrications before the van arrives, but this could be my last opportunity to ski in CO this season because of other commitments.
I’ll watch some fabrication videos on YouTube while I’m away to be prepared to start on the fabrications when I return.
