I stayed in Wallace last night and had a great dinner at the Blackboard Cafe. Sat at the bar and had the pleasure to get to know Dennis who was sitting next to me. Dennis is from Australia and works in the mining industry, which is why he was in Wallace.
I walked around town to check out the music festival, but it was pretty tame. So I went to bed early.
Got up and had a great breakfast at The Brooks. Huckleberry pancakes, eggs, & bacon. Fueled me up for my ride.
I was biking at 7:00. It was 60 degrees to start, but was forecast to get up to 90 degrees by mid afternoon. I was making this a short day, and was only biking 50 miles to Harrison. The entire day was on the CDA trail.
The trail was super nice the whole way. Paved and smooth. I made great time and was in Harrison by 11:00.
About 30 minutes into my ride I came across a mama and baby moose next to the trail. The first moose I’ve seen this trip. In the picture the baby moose is on the left in the grass.
The trail follows a small river, which was very beautiful.
I was slowly leaving the Rocky Mountains behind me. The trail went through a series of marshes and wetlands.
There were several cyclists on the trail and I got to chat with a few who were going my direction. From one of them I received a good recommendation for a restaurant in Harrison for lunch.
I had a good lunch. There is practically no cell service in Harrison, so after lunch I sat outside the local library and used their WiFi to write up this blog post.
Not a lot of excitement today, for a change. For the day, I biked 50 miles and only climbed 100 feet.
I’ll check into my B&B at 3:00, then get some dinner and go to bed early. Tomorrow is going to be a longer day of biking, and I plan to start at dawn.
Six more days until I see Elizabeth!! ❤️
Washington tomorrow!
