It was a cold morning with a low temperature of 43 degrees. So, I slept in a little bit and took some extra time in the morning. By the time I left, it was 8:30 and the temperature was 49 degrees. I was a little chilly, but I had five miles of climbing to do as I left Sundance, and that warmed me up. At the top of the hill was some great views.
Maybe the best view (for me, anyway) was this sign.
It was a nice long downhill, and I thought this scene was especially pretty.
At the top of the next big climb, I got my first glimpse of Devils Tower. It took me another 90 minutes to get there. I went into the park and biked the three uphill miles to the Visitor Center. From there I took a short hike (1.5 mile) all the way around the tower. Here are a couple of the best pictures I took.
The scenery around the tower was beautiful as well.
After the hike, I got some lunch and headed to the town of Hulett, where I had a hotel reservation for the night. I got to my hotel by 2:30, so it was a short day. The high temperature for the day was 70 degrees, which made it a pleasant day to bike.
For the day, I biked 44 miles and climbed 2,200 feet.
Tomorrow I enter eastern Montana, and the towns get very sparse. The next town with a hotel is 90 miles away. Iām hoping to put a big day in tomorrow. So, it was nice to have a little shorter day today.
Loved the pictures! You are really doing so well on this trip!
