Jim’s Bike Across America Blog
Jim, why did you create this site?
Before I created this web site, I rationalized my decision based on the following benefits.
First, I thought this would be a great way to share things with my family and friends. So, you’ll see that I have a section for recipes, adventures via biking or hiking, travels, and other research. Creating this web site allows me to share these items with others, so that they can make that recipe, get outside for more adventures, or benefit from my research.
Second, this is also a way to keep myself organized. My pile of recipes was out of control before this web site. Now, I have them in one place and sortable. I still have a much smaller pile of recipes that I’m working on, but that small pile is manageable. Likewise, having this site allows me to keep my notes on past adventures organized, and helps me to plan future adventures. I use tags on the website to keep them separate.
Third, is to learn how to create and moderate a web site. Something I have never done before this site. So, I get to play around and try new things. Anyone who knows me knows that I love to learn.
Last, the website gives me the freedom to present information in a format that I think is the most effective. I’m not limited by someone else’s website or application design. I can pretty much make this website the way I want it. Also, no one restricting any post that I want to put up here.
Where are the ads?
My website is all about sharing with you. So, no adds or commercials. I’m not selling anything, and I do not benefit from any products or websites that I share with you.
Final thoughts
Since I’m new to web site creation, expect the site to morph a little as I become more skilled. Hopefully, not deleting any content along the way, but that is what backups are for, right? I’m going to start with some recipes, then some of my various outings, until I get the hang of this. I may add some cool data analytics in the future on socially relevant topics. May also add some backpacking recipes and some gear reviews. I’m also taking suggestions, so feel free to leave a comment if you have any suggestions.
Impressive start!
Great picture. GREAT IDEA TOO.
